When you look at data about weight gain and weight loss around the world some important trends emerge.
The nations that are in the direst need of weight loss are the ones which have moved rapidly from extreme poverty to the modern lifestyle and modern foods. Usually, people from these types of countries are not ready to start living in different conditions. Their past poverty makes them greedier. The scarcity of resources strengthens the desire for them. It is proven that the lack of something makes people need this thing in an extreme way.
Mexico is the country with most health problems where weight problems are the highest worldwide. Mexico was very poor just a couple of decades ago but gained economic momentum because of its trade with the US. The enormous difference between the rich and the poor has influenced people in several directions. Usually obesity is caused by junk food, stress and lack of sport activities. Weight loss is a constant goal, but once in a while achievable.
The countries from the Eastern Bloc suffer from heart problems related to mismanagement of weight loss because these countries were very suddenly exposed to the modern style of life and modern food after 1990. During the communism these nations were really oppressed because of the limited access to diverse commodities. AT the same time the western part of Europe was growing and developing and the countries of the Eastern Bloc were closed and functioned within boundaries. This isolation caused a lot of trouble when the communist regime went down and people received their economic freedom. The fast transition created a lot of economic and social problems. These problems have evolved and the consequences are poverty and health problems.
Religion is also much related to the way people gain and lose weight. In Muslim countries there are religious restrictions about when and how much people should eat and therefore in some Muslim countries weight gain is a huge problem. The abundance for some people and the extreme poverty for others, both lead to the same results- obesity. However, in the Muslim reality there is not much desire to pursue weight loss.
